They typically work in the metal manufacturing, processing, or repair industry, providing customers with high-quality and customized metal finishing services
Some of the main duties and responsibilities of a metal polisher are:
- Inspect and evaluate the condition and value of the metal objects to be polished, and determine the best method and materials to use
- Select and prepare the appropriate polishing tools, such as buffers, polishers, waxers, abrasives, or chemicals, according to the type and size of the metal and the desired finish
- Apply the polishing materials to the metal surfaces, and use the polishing tools to remove dirt, grease, rust, scratches, or tarnish, and create a smooth and shiny .
- Check and measure the polished metal objects for quality, accuracy, and compliance with the standards and specifications, and make corrections or adjustments as needed
- Clean and maintain the polishing tools and equipment, and report any malfunctions or issues to the supervisor or manager
- Keep records of the materials used, the objects polished, and the time spent, and submit them to the employer or client as required
To become a metal polisher, one must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Have basic math and reading skills, and knowledge of metal properties and polishing techniques
- Have experience in metal polishing, or complete a vocational training program or an apprenticeship in metal polishing
- Have good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and attention to detail, and the ability to create various patterns and designs on metal surfaces
- Have good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work well with others.
