The Questions & The Strategy:
- “Tell me about yourself.”
- Strategy: Keep it professional, not personal. Use the “Past, Present, Future” structure. Mention your current role, your background, and why you are here today.
- “Why do you want to work here?”
- Strategy: Prove you did your research. Connect their company mission with your personal career values.
- “What are your strengths?”
- Strategy: Choose strengths that are relevant to the job description (e.g., “Problem Solving” for IT, “Empathy” for HR) and back them up with examples.
- “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?”
- Strategy: Show ambition but stay realistic. Recruiters want to see that you plan to stay and grow within the industry.
- “Why are you leaving your current job?”
- Strategy: Stay positive. Don’t badmouth your ex-boss. Focus on “seeking new challenges” rather than “escaping a bad situation.”
- “Tell me about a time you faced a challenge.”
- Strategy: Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). Focus heavily on the Action—what did you specifically do?
- “Do you have any questions for us?”
- Strategy: Always say yes. Ask about team culture, upcoming projects, or what success looks like in this role.
